One of the first major needs the Tang Khiev community had after being violently evicted from their previous village was livable housing. Most families were living on a 4 by 6 meter plot of land, under a flimsy structure of sticks and leaves that had no protection against the elements nor security for their possessions. So our focus was to give them an habitable home, safe from the rain and with necessary security for themselves and their belongings. Together with the community, we built 93 two story homes. The materials we used to make the homes were easy to work with, to repair or to extend on. We put tin roofs and a gutter to collect rain water, providing them with an additional source of clean water during the rainy season. Since then, many families have improved their homes by extending them, adding brick walls, pouring concrete floors... etc. Read more...

The completion of the Mango Tree School allowed us to open up the primary school, including grades 1 to 3 originally, and now grade 4 and 5 as well, and the learning center. Each program, the government school in the morning and the learning center classes in the afternoon, accommodates 175 students, 35 students per grade. A new school needs to be built because we have run out of room and want to host grades 1 to 8. (See "New School Building" in "Current Projects".) Read more...

Students pay $8 for a package of courses which include Khmer and English typing, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Photoshop. The students can take these courses at their own speed and receive assistance and instruction from our computer teacher. We have had around 120 graduates of the course package. Computer classes are an incredible opportunity for our community members since most of them do not have access to computers; even the local high schools do not have computers. It cost us $5000 for the initial set up. One of our generous sponsors covers the teacher's wage of $300 a year. Read more...

Initially, there was an extreme lack of clean water available to the community other than collectible rain water during the rainy season. Most locals got their water from the government pond which was polluted. So Manna4Life installed a water treatment center to provide clean water for the community. It has a capacity of 24,000 litres and is available to community members at all times which has been a great blessing to the health of the village. Read more...
